Union Square Neighbors (USN) is an independent, all-volunteer neighborhood association. Participation in USN is open to anyone who lives or works in and around Union Square. Check out our membership page to see a map of our membership area.
We rely on the help of people who live and work in the Union Square area to keep USN moving and keep you informed. We know people lead busy lives. We do too!
We try to make sure there are many ways to get involved in USN ranging from participating in our increasingly popular email forum, supporting our advocacy work, becoming a member, volunteering to be part of a work group, helping to organize a community event, or becoming a member of our Steering Committee. Find out more below!

JOIN A WORKING GROUP
Holy smokes, there's a lot going on in Union Square! We can't keep up either. Join or organize a working group to get involved on issues important to you. If you don't see something that addresses your interests, suggest a new working group.
Zoning Reform: This is for super geeks who understand that zoning has a huge influence on what gets developed--everything from street level retail requirements, to affordable housing, to parking mandates (both auto and bike!). You don't know the difference between CCD-55 and TOD-100? You will soon enough.
Open Space & Sustainability: Are you interested in the "space in between," the parks, plazas, sidewalks, streets and alleys? So are we. This group works on issues relating to the public realm, including public art, green space, energy efficiency, and sustainability.
Transportation: USN's transportation working group advocates for improvements that will make Union Square a safer and better place to walk and bicycle, including connecting the center of Union Square to the future community path. Help influence the streetscape and transit planning for Union Square, the Union Square MBTA station, McGrath Highway, and local "neighborways."
Neighborhood Business: Help support Union Square's existing small businesses and encourage new neighborhood oriented retail—making sure the type of independent, local businesses that help make Union Square a great place to live today are also part of its future.
Housing: Do you want to see housing suitable for families and residents across ages and income levels? Are you interested in topics like micro units, co-housing, artist live/work spaces, etc.? Then this work group is for you.
Historic Preservation: Part of Union Square's character is its history. We don't want Union Square to become just another bland commercial district without a soul. Help advocate for establishing a Union Square local historic district and protect some of the buildings and places that we all enjoy.
We're always looking for people who can help out. Whether it's organizing an event, writing a press release, picking things up from the printer, or handing out USN postcards at different events, we need your help. Contact us and let us know you want to be added to our volunteer list.
